It is a shame, that just because a dog doesn't have any disqualifying faults, people feel that automatically translates to great type. Having type does not go hand in hand with specific faults. You can have a great specimen with excellent type, yet have disqualifying faults. And in turn you can have a dog that doesn't have one specific dq, but has NO type. Which is better? I will take a type dogo every time, over a dogo with no type and no "faults".
Head type is very specific, an attribute that is characteristic of the dogo. When you have a white dog, with short hair, dark eyes, about 25" tall and cropped ears, you don't necessarily have a dogo.
On top of that, does your dog"o" hunt? Will it engage with an adversary?
Why do people get on a high horse and suggest that people should tell others that their dogo doesn't "fit the standard"? Would they appreciate the same critque?

When Antonio wrote his standard he developed 18 points which would make the Dogo Argentino unique to all other breeds of those 18 points 8 are descriptive to its head, of his 9 disqualifying parameters 5 correspond to the Dogo Argentinos head.
When we speak of a determined breed we must refer to its type or expression meaning that when comparing the Dogo Argentino to a Great Dane, Bull Terrier, Bulldog or Pit bull he must NEVER look like one after mentioned--- meaning that the character of expression (Type) is what will represent a number of dogs with the exact or VERY SIMILAR phenotype---
SO--- every dog can trout (gate) the same way, every dogs specific BODY part (Loins, Withers, Neck, Top-line, Under-line, Tail, Legs, etc) are the same for the most part, however what separates any dog one from another is its head. Based on this understanding/knowledge we must come to the conclusion the TYPE/EXPRESSION starts WITH THE HEAD.
Studding and UNDERSTANDING the head is PRIME to KNOWING what ever breed is of your preference.

When one goes to rescue a dog at a shelter, first thing one looks at his HEAD, then SIZE and then COLOR then the rest, when a dog is deemed PITBULL CROSS it is normally because it has a blocky and converging head, the rest of the cross is identified by the rest of the body parts, feathered tail, short tail, long tail, curled up tail, long coat, thick coat, short coat---etc.
IF a dog is deemed ABD Cross it is because it has a pit type head but of larger size--- see what I mean? EVERYTHING starts with HEAD. Boxer cross??? Because it has a very pronounced STOP and blunt muzzle—etc and etc.

bump....for those still promoting the non-typical Dogo as a great specimen. With the AKC at our doorstep now, we need to be out there promoting the typical Dogo Argentino. Type, Temperament, and Tenacity.

I am going to have a show, for anyone who wants to show up. You can even pick the judge! I will host it. Bring any dog you want, even if you just paid for it and erased your breeders name, and inserted your own. We don't discriminate, bring it. We will see who has the prettier dog. Then you are welcome to go out in the field with me, and we will set up a place for you to hunt your dog. I will give you some time to train your dogs if you need.
Basically, put up or shut up. You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk.
This is about Dogos, not Egoes.

The last post made no sense? Well I would be glad to clarify any of it for you. Maybe I should have left out all of the periods and commas.
