My neighbor recently brought home a Dogo Argentino who appears to be past the puppy stage. Although the Dogo seems to get along well with my neighbor's family, she definitely appears to be territorial and exhibits aggression when I am out in my yard. We live in a tract home neighborhood where the yards are small and the homes are close together. I'm extremely nervous about being in my backyard when the Dogo is out, since the fence separating us is a 5 foot tall 20 year-old weathered cedar fence. My understanding is that Dogos can be powerful jumpers and can inflict serious injury when they want to, so I'm doubtful the fence will do much to keep the Dogo in her own yard. Also, several years back, a much smaller (but equally determined) dog was able to jump my fence in attempt to get at my cat who was watching from my window.
In order to feel a little more safe in my backyard, I'm looking into new fencing between our houses, but am kind of curious as to the type and height of fence that will be sufficient to keep a determined Dogo out of my yard. I've come across some postings on other forums where the owners mention their Dogos could easily jump a 6 foot fence (yikes!). Our homeowners association limits the size of fences to 6 feet, but perhaps they could be persuaded into allowing a taller fence for safety reasons. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

You could get a smaller fence and use Petsafe Stubborn dog invisible fence system to keep it away from the real fence. I use one and followed the directions and it works like a charm. You may think it's cruel, but I think the pros out-weigh the cons. Mine learned on the low setting and he doesn't wear it most the time and still stays in bounds.
